When the Detroit Tigers traded starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 30, they were 52-57 and 7.5 games out of a playoff spot. Now, they’re headed to the American League Division Series after a Wild Card sweep of the Astros in Houston, thanks in large part to the pitcher they didn’t trade away – Tarik Skubal. Skubal has been an absolute workhorse for the Tigers rotation all year, but especially in the home stretch of the regular season, going at least six innings in seven of ten starts after the Flaherty trade, and never fewer than five. Then he shut down the Astros playoff veteran-laden roster for six innings in his postseason debut, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out six en route to a 3-1 Game 1 victory.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skubal’s 2.39 season ERA is the second-best ever in Detroit history for pitchers with at least 25 starts in a season, behind only Denny McLain’s 1.96 in 1968. With that being said, can you name the American and National League leaders in ERA for each season since 2003?

Good luck!
