Big payoff TD looks for Saints-Chiefs on 'MNF'

Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images

After another wild Sunday in the NFL, Week 5 comes to a close on Monday night with a cross-conference battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints. This is a great game to sprinkle some long-shot touchdown scorer bets because both teams are dealing with key injuries on the offensive side of the ball, so let's gun for a juicy payout with two touchdown targets for "Monday Night Football."

Going big on our 'MNF' touchdown targets

Juwan Johnson

Anytime touchdown: +550 (FanDuel)
First touchdown: +2900 (FD)

Johnson is off to a quiet start this season with only six targets and four catches through four games, but he turned his lone red-zone target into a 16-yard touchdown in Week 1. The physical tight end was one of Derek Carr's favorite end zone targets last season due to his 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame, the Saints are making an effort to get him more involved in the offense.

Last week, Johnson played a season-high 68 percent of the team's offensive snaps and saw three targets. Those numbers could be even higher this week with Taysom Hill ruled out for "MNF." Hill scored two short-yardage touchdowns last week, but New Orleans will have to look elsewhere for a red-zone weapon in this one.

Noah Gray

Anytime touchdown: +600 (FD)
First touchdown: +2900 (FD)

The Chiefs lost yet another key contributor last week when star wide receiver Rashee Rice went down with a knee injury and landed on IR. With Rice and Isiah Pacheco out of the lineup, it's anyone's guess who will emerge as Patrick Mahomes's favorite red-zone weapon behind Travis Kelce. We have a feeling it might be Gray in this matchup.

New Orleans is dealing with multiple injuries at the linebacker position, so defensive coordinator Joe Woods will have to move some pieces around to shut down Kelce. The Saints will force the Chiefs to beat them with anyone else, and that should open up some room down the middle of the field for Gray. The backup tight end has played at least 50 percent of the team's offensive snaps in every game this season, and he's tied for the team lead in red-zone targets (two). Can't you picture Andy Reid using Kelce as a decoy just to drop the ball off to Gray near the goal line? So can we.

In the news ...

Dak Prescott plays hero as Cowboys shock Steelers in final seconds — The Dallas Cowboys took down the Pittsburgh Steelers, 20-17, on "Sunday Night Football" thanks to a Prescott touchdown pass to Jalen Tolbert on fourth down with 20 seconds remaining in the game. Tolbert finished the night with 87 yards and a touchdown on seven catches, while the Dallas defense held the Steelers to just 226 yards of offense. The Cowboys are +260 to win the NFC East.

Big underdogs continue to cash for NFL bettors — If you've been riding the biggest underdogs on every NFL slate so far, you're having a great year. The Arizona Cardinals (+7.5) knocked off the San Francisco 49ers, 24-23, and the New York Giants (+7) upset the Seattle Seahawks, 29-20, on Sunday to keep the trend rolling. NFL underdogs of 5.5 points or more are 19-4-1 against the spread with 13 outright wins this season. If you want to ride the underdog wave, you can take the Saints to cover +5.5 against the Chiefs on Monday night.

Phillies, Padres record crucial wins to even up NLDS series — What a Sunday it was in the NLDS. First, the Philadelphia Phillies came from behind in a seesaw Game 2 to knock off the New York Mets, 7-6, on a Nick Castellanos walk-off single. Then, the San Diego Padres powered their way to a 10-2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With both series now tied 1-1, the Phillies are -142 to advance, and the Padres are -116.

Quick Picks

1 Cole Ragans over 15.5 outs recorded

Ragans has gone over this line in five straight starts, and current New York Yankees hitters are batting just .095 against him in 25 plate appearances. This prop shouldn't be plus money.

Latest Odds:  +105
2 Chris Jones to record a sack

Jones is going to be licking his chops in this matchup, as the Saints are down to their third-string center, their backup right guard and possibly their backup left guard. The star defensive tackle recorded two sacks against a banged-up Los Angeles Chargers line last week, and he should feast again on Monday night.

Latest Odds:  +112
3 Xavier Worthy over 2.5 rushing yards

With Rice and Pacheco both sidelined, the Chiefs need to find creative ways to get Worthy the ball and let his speed do the rest. The electric rookie already has five carries and 39 rushing yards this season, and he's cleared this line in three of four games.

Latest Odds:  -135
