Mondays are never fun, but this one is a dream for sports bettors everywhere. Monday, Oct. 28 marks the 31st sports equinox in history. What is a sports equinox, you ask? Well, it's when all four of the major American sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) have at least one game on the same day.
We don't get many of these in our lifetime, so let's take full advantage of it.
Celebrate the sports equinox with this cross-sport parlay
NFL: New York Giants +6
The Giants are coming off an embarrassing blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but we like them to bounce back with a strong performance on "Monday Night Football." New York isn't as bad as it looked last week, and we don't think the Pittsburgh Steelers are as good as they looked against the terrible New York Jets. Russell Wilson struggles under pressure, and the Giants can get after him with Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burnes. In three road games this year, the Giants upset the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns and lost by three to the Washington Commanders.
NBA: Phoenix Suns -4
The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a 3-0 start this season, but all three games came in the friendly confines of Crypto.com Arena. L.A. finally hits the road on Monday night, where it went 20-24 straight up and 21-23 against the spread last season. The Lakers needed a 22-point comeback to beat the Suns a few days ago. Phoenix gets it done this time around.
MLB: Walker Buehler over 3.5 hits allowed
Buehler ranks in the 16th percentile in xBA (.266) and the 20th percentile in xERA (4.68) this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander went over this line in 14 of his 16 regular-season starts, and he's given up 10 hits and six earned runs in 9.0 innings of work this postseason. The New York Yankees should pounce on him early.
NHL: Carolina Hurricanes moneyline
The Hurricanes look like a wagon to start the season. Carolina leads the NHL in xGoals% and Corsi% by a wide margin, and Frederik Andersen leads the league in goals allowed average (1.48) and save percentage (.941). This line should be higher than it is.
Throw it all together, and we get a +914 cross-sport parlay on DraftKings for the sports equinox. Happy holidays, and let's cash!
In the news ...
Jayden Daniels' Hail Mary miracle highlights wild NFL Week 8 slate — What an unbelievable Sunday in the NFL. The eventful early slate saw the Cleveland Browns upset the Baltimore Ravens, the New England Patriots upset the New York Jets and the Detroit Lions score 52 points on only 47 offensive plays against the Tennessee Titans, but that was just the beginning. In the afternoon, the Washington Commanders took down the Chicago Bears on a Daniels Hail Mary to Noah Brown on the final play of the game. The Commanders lead the NFC East at 6-2, but they're still +145 to win the division. The 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles are -135.
Jordan Love, Drake Maye, Stefon Diggs suffer injuries in Week 8 — Another week, another slew of injuries around the NFL. Love left the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a groin injury and didn't return. Maye suffered a concussion early against the New York Jets and was later ruled out. Diggs suffered a non-contact knee injury against the Indianapolis Colts and will undergo an MRI this week to determine the severity. With Love's status in doubt, the Green Bay Packers opened as 4.5-point underdogs against the Detroit Lions in Week 9.
Shohei Ohtani expected to play through shoulder injury in Game 3 — Ohtani suffered a left shoulder subluxation during a steal attempt in Game 2 of the World Series, but it looks as if he'll be able to suit up in Game 3. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters the team is "banking on" Ohtani recovering in time to play on Monday night. The Yankees, down 0-2 in the World Series, are -150 to win Game 3.
