The NBA All-Star Game format this year – featuring a four-team round robin that included the “Rising Stars,” winners – was something fans had never seen before. Steph Curry turning and celebrating a three-pointer before it drops at the Chase Center was not. Curry and Shaq’s OGs beat Chuck’s Global Stars in the championship game, with the Chef scoring 12 points in the 41-25 victory en route to MVP honors.

“We needed to change, needed some new life, new juice in the game,” Curry said when asked about his involvement with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in the changes. 

Despite the tweaks to the competition though, not all the players were thrilled with the event – partially due the many stoppages in play for things like a lengthy tribute to 'Inside the NBA on TNT.'

“I would rather play without the breaks,” said MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. “But I had fun, I feel like it was a little more towards the competitive side tonight. Which is a good sign, a step in the right direction.”
