It’s been 10 years since Tim Tebow made a “promise” he most definitely intended to keep. Tebow gave a postgame speech that, at the time, fans of Florida Gators football needed to hear. Today, it's something current college — and perhaps professional — athletes can learn from.
On that day in 2008, the Gators were 3-0 and ranked fourth in the nation. They were armed with plenty of big-time talent and the reigning Heisman winner in Tebow and were playing at home against an Ole Miss team that had already lost to Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. However, it was the Rebels who played like a ranked team, rolling into The Swamp and trudging out with a stunning 31-30 victory. After the game, a dejected and somewhat remorseful Tebow apologized to Gators fans for the effort and vowed he and his teammates would work to make sure the rest of the season resembled nothing like that day in Gainesville.
As a man of his word, Tebow — and the Gators — kept the promise. Florida went on to win 10 straight and the school’s second national championship in three seasons. A decade later, the Gators are still searching for their next national title and a quarterback nearly as good as Tebow. Redshirt sophomore Feleipe Franks currently holds the job at Florida and, despite being maligned at times, is tied with Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa for the SEC lead with 12 passing touchdowns.
Which brings us to today's quiz of the day. Tebow, as we know, has traded in his shoulder pads for a baseball glove with hopes of reaching the majors. But on the anniversary of Tebow’s “promise,” how many quarterbacks who led the SEC in passing touchdowns for the season, since 1993, can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
