Four-year veteran running back Tyler Allgeier signed a new two-year, $12 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Allgeier, a former fifth-round pick, spent the entirety of his career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Tyler Allgeier hits free agency following perhaps the worst season of his career. Appearing in 17 games while making two starts, the veteran running back recorded 514 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 143 attempts. While Atlanta primarily used him in a short-yardage role, his 3.6 yards per attempt is worrisome, as is his 71.5 PFF grade, far and away the lowest of his career. The Falcons had a similarly disappointing season, finishing the year with an 8-9 record and missing the playoffs.

Allgeier originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected by the Atlanta Falcons, the BYU product joined a wide-open backfield and quickly earned the starting job. Appearing in 16 games while making seven starts, the rookie finished his inaugural campaign with 1,035 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 210 attempts while adding 16 receptions for 139 yards and another score. Despite his efforts, the Falcons missed the playoffs and used their 2021 first-round pick on running back Bijan Robinson.

Despite Robinson’s addition, Allgeier remained a key part of the Falcons offense. While he never reclaimed the starting role, he still recorded 683 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. He followed that up with another solid campaign in 2024, recording 644 yards and three touchdowns on just 137 attempts. By all measures, he and Robinson formed one of the league’s better running back duos, but it was never enough for this team to reach the postseason.

Since signing his rookie contract, Tyler Allgeier has appeared in 67 games while making 12 starts. During his time on the field, the BYU product has recorded 2,876 yards and 18 touchdowns on 676 attempts while adding 61 receptions for 516 yards and two scores as a receiver.
