Five-year veteran running back Javonte Williams signed a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Williams, a former second-round pick, spent the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys but has also played for the Denver Broncos.
The 2025 season was easily the best one for Javonte Williams. After four unremarkable seasons with the Denver Broncos, Williams signed a modest one-year deal to compete in a wide-open backfield. The veteran won the job and quickly proved to be one of the best value signings of the offseason, finishing the year with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 252 attempts while adding 35 receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Despite his strong play, the Cowboys missed the playoffs.
Javonte Williams originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Denver Broncos, the North Carolina product spent his rookie season splitting snaps with veteran Melvin Gordon. In total, he appeared in 17 games while recording 903 yards and four touchdowns on 203 attempts. Williams earned the starting job in Year 2, but injuries limited him to just four games and 204 rushing yards.
The running back returned to the field in 2023 but he didn’t look like his old self. While he was the primary back, he recorded just 774 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 217 attempts (3.6 yards per carry). Additionally, he didn’t bring much to the passing game, as he recorded 47 receptions for just 228 yards. The 2024 season was equally disappointing, as he finished with just 513 yards and four touchdowns before eventually losing the starting job.
Since signing his rookie contract, Javonte Williams has recorded 3,595 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 858 attempts while adding 193 receptions for 1,103 yards and seven touchdowns on 254 targets.
