Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has made a run at great NFL Draft classes over the last four years that has set up the team for two Super Bowl runs in three years.
The 2025 NFL Draft was no exception as the Eagles selected 10 players, six of them on defense and three offensive linemen. Defense was more of the focus, with their first five selections being defenders.
While many of their rookie defenders will see the field this season, one of their selections is getting an impressive label without taking the field.
Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski picked the most dangerous new addition to each NFL team in 2025. Eagles first-round pick Jihaad Campbell is seen by Sobleski as a perfect partner for Zack Baun at linebacker.
"'Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would never draft a linebacker in the first round.'
Welp, he finally did it with the selection of Alabama's Jihaad Campbell. Or did he?
Campbell served as an edge-defender for the Crimson Tide before making the full-time conversion to off-ball linebacker. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio can use him in a variety of manners to disguise defenses and create pressure different pressure packages to confuse opposing quarterbacks.
'Jihaad Campbell was one of the higher grades I've given for a linebacker," an NFL executive told The Athletic's Mike Sando. "Vic Fangio will use (Zack) Baun off the ball and Campbell on the ball, and that is huge. They will be the blitzers in the simulated four-man pressures that Vic runs. It can be like Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman in San Francisco.'
Campbell may never be a full-time edge-defender, but his skill set allows him to be used as a defensive chess piece, as long as he stays healthy. A postseason shoulder surgery dropped the 21-year-old prospect to the 31st overall pick despite being a top-15 talent."
Last season at Alabama, Campbell was a first-team All-SEC selection. He racked up 117 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and one interception in 13 starts.
Campbell is another example of the Eagles drafting a player later than where they were supposed to land. He was initially seen as a mid-round pick with Roseman trying to trade up for him multiple times, but ended up landing him at 31 after a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia has talent at inside linebacker, along with Baun, Campbell, Nakobe Dean, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. The four make the perfect, young tandem, and with Dean's injury concerns, Campbell could see the field more as a starter.
Every potential starter on the Eagles' defense will be at least 28 years old or under. That's an encouraging sign that this defense will be set for years, and Campbell is a big key to that puzzle.
