2023 NFL quarterback analysis: Green Bay Packers

Current starter: Aaron Rodgers | Current backups: Jordan Love, Danny Etling

State of the position: Rodgers is coming off perhaps the worst full season of his career, and he’s made it clear that he’s on the fence about his playing future with the Packers. On a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers stated he would not be part of a rebuild and he feels he can win another MVP in the right situation, but he’s unsure if the right situation is in Green Bay.

Should Rodgers end up elsewhere in 2023, the Packers won’t exactly be left high and dry. Love, a former first-round pick, showed signs of improvement this year, including his 113-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12, nearly leading a 14-point comeback in the second half.

If Love is the Packers' starting QB in 2023, it’ll allow them to see what he can do for a full season under center before having to decide whether or not to pick up his fifth-year option for 2024.

Key stat: 2022 was the first season since Rodgers became Green Bay’s starting quarterback in 2008 that he didn’t have one 300-yard passing game

2023 QB forecast: Rodgers agreed to a three-year, $150.8 million contract extension ahead of the 2022 season, and it’s hard to see him just walking away from that kind of money, especially if he truly believes he still has elite-level playing years left.

That said, he is one of the more flakey players in the NFL, and after years of will he or won’t he be back, the Packers may be tired of Rodgers’ antics. However, if he does return for his 19th season, Green Bay then has a valuable trade chip in Love.

There are several teams drafting outside of the top 10 that could potentially need a new QB next year and are willing to deal including the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Seattle Seahawks.

At this point, it’s hard to see both Rodgers and Love on Green Bay’s roster in 2023.
