2023 NFL quarterback analysis: Kansas City Chiefs

Current starter: Patrick Mahomes | Current backups: Chad Henne and Shane Buechele

State of the position: Chiefs fans reside in QB nirvana. Mahomes is the best QB in the league, and he's only 27. What a resume: Five Pro Bowls, a 2018 MVP, a Super Bowl LIV win, a 64-16 regular-season record as a starter, and an 8-3 postseason mark.

Per OddsChecker, Mahomes is the favorite for another MVP.

Over 17 regular-season games in 2022, he threw for 41 touchdowns and posted a 77.7 QBR, the league's best in both categories.

What makes his production even more ridiculous is Kansas City traded his No.1 target, Tyreek Hill, to Miami last offseason.

"He's the best QB in the NFL, but we already knew that. What we may not have realized is that he's playing the best football of his career," wrote Rodger Sherman of The Ringer.

Tom Brady holds the NFL record for career passing yards with 89,214. Could Mahomes top 100,000 someday?

Key stat: Mahomes threw for a league-best 5,250 passing yards in 2022, the fourth-most regular-season passing yards in NFL history.

2023 QB forecast: At this point, the Chiefs have zero concerns about a franchise QB.

However, they want more than one title with a player of Mahomes' caliber. After hoisting the Lombardi Trophy three years ago, Kansas City lost Super Bowl LV and the 2022 AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes is under contract until 2031. Many more Super Bowls are in his future.
