2023 NFL quarterback analysis: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Current starter: Tom Brady | Current backups: Blaine Gabbert, Kyle Trask

State of the position: It sounds like Tom Brady, who could retire, is done with the Bucs.

"I love this organization, it's a great place to be and thank you everyone for welcoming me ... just very grateful for the respect, and I hope I gave the same thing back," he said following Tampa Bay's 31-14 loss to Dallas in the wild-card round.

This was a hugely disappointing season for Brady. He had a losing record (8-9) as a starter for the first time, and the Bucs' offense was largely unwatchable.

Tampa Bay averaged 18.4 points, and Brady had a career-high 733 pass attempts -- an unsustainable number for any QB. Per Pro Football Focus, Brady finished the season with his lowest grade (77.5) since 2009.

If the team is convinced Gabbert or Trask is the answer, we can probably sell the front office on a nice view of the Pacific Ocean from Iowa, too.

Key stat: Tampa Bay won 37 games during Brady's three seasons with the organization, including the postseason (2020-2022). The Bucs won 38 games during a seven-year span from 2013-2019.

2023 QB forecast: With the 19th, 51st, and 83rd overall picks in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft, a prospect such as Stanford's Tanner McKee or BYU's Jaren Hall could be in play.

It's more likely the team goes after a veteran should Brady not return while keeping Trask on board as a backup. In that scenario, a player such as pending free agent Jacoby Brissett could be a nice fit in Tampa Bay.

As he showed against Tampa Bay this season, he is a capable runner as well.

Tampa Bay has a spotty offensive line. Brissett's mobility could be the perfect antidote.
