2023 Tennessee Titans schedule analysis

On Thursday night, the NFL released the complete Tennessee Titans schedule. Per NFL research, Titans opponents had a 127-157-4 record in 2022 (.448 win percentage), making their schedule the fifth-easiest in the NFL.

Circle this date: Week 6 vs. Ravens (Oct. 15)

This Week 6 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens marks the Titans first game in London since 2018 — a 20-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at Wembley Stadium. With an 8:30 a.m. CT start time, Titans fans better set their alarms for this one. Though they’re not division rivals anymore, Titans-Ravens matchups never seem to be short of action or drama.

Toughest stretch: Weeks 1-4

Beginning the year against the New Orleans Saints, Chargers, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals is not ideal. Tennessee had the worst pass defense in the NFL last season, allowing 274.8 yards per game, and the schedule makers did the Titans no favors by making them run a gauntlet of Derek Carr, Justin Herbert, Deshaun Watson and Joe Burrow right out of the gate.

Easiest stretch: Weeks 12-13

There don't seem to be many opportunities for the Titans to notch back-to-back wins this season. But their best chance is midseason against the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, who are both breaking in new head coaches and likely starting rookie quarterbacks. 

The average height of the Titans defense line is nearly 6-foot-4, so if Panthers QB Bryce Young’s height is truly a detriment, Tennessee’s defense will give him problems. Conversely, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has averaged just 49.2 yards rushing per game in his career against the Titans, which could put more pressure on quarterback Anthony Richardson to play well.

Most intriguing matchup: Week 9 at Pittsburgh

Week 9’s matchup against the Steelers will mark the Titans first game after the trade deadline. If rookie Will Levis is indeed starting QB by then, it’s possible Ryan Tannehill could be sent elsewhere. It’s also possible the Titans could ship running back Derrick Henry to a running back-needy team if they don’t sign him to a contract extension before the season. The Titans in Week 9 could look a little different than the Titans in Week 8.
