It’s a new world out at Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots operate their franchise. For the first time in this century, Bill Belichick is not calling pretty much all the shots. In fact, he’s not calling any shots. What we sort of know here is who is calling the shots.
Robert Kraft seems to be having trouble these days making final, definitive decisions. But without him giving out all the titles officially it looks as though the 3 key players in the Patriots front office for this year’s Draft will be ELIOT WOLF (GM), MIKE GROH (PERSONNEL DIRECTOR) & Head Coach JEROD MAYO. But the secret sauce ingredient may be the recent addition of long-time NFL scout/administrator ALONZO HIGHSMITH, who was in Green Bay as Eliot Wolf rose through the Packers football management team.
It is being suggested that Highsmith will help the Patriots re-design their system relative to personnel fits for their team. In other words, giving their scouts a clearer picture about what they are looking for in players under WOLF/MAYO guidance when evaluating for roster additions in the Draft. There might have been some disconnect in this area with Belichick exerting full control for at least the last 10 years.
So here is my Team Mock for them, and I am making these projections based on who I think can best fit into the Patriots’ Way while upgrading a currently deficient player roster. I have not a clue as to how the aforementioned trio will formulate their Big Board.
However, I have a sense that when this Draft is done JUSTIN FIELDS, not Daniels will be New England’s new QB in 2024.
Also traded to obtain some early Day Two Pick for a player they thought would be gone in Round 1 for a R2 & R3 Pick this year.
Fastest wideout at the Senior Bowl based on GPS tracking.
Yet another speedster who was flat-out the fastest player timed in Mobile at 21.34 mph
Perhaps the best receiving RB in this Draft.
Has come on strong with some scouts, who feel he may be starting NC early in his career.
Massive target, who is also a wall as a blocker. He will be a prize pupil for their TE Coach Bob Bicknell.
I am projecting major trades for this team, with the main target being JUSTIN FIELDS once the BEARS draft Caleb Williams. But for now of specific note is the addition of speed to their receiver group & secondary, as well as a potential top-notch receiving threat at RB in LAUBE. They have the money to land a legit OT as a VFA. They might gain another Pick for Day 3 of the 2025 Draft for MAC JONES/QB.
Cheers,
