Stats
In all honesty, the word that describe the ball from Williams’ hand is effortless. Despite little windup and raring back, the prospect generates superior velocity and effective carry of it’s passes. While football is not a game of aesthetics, the tight spiral will cut through a cross winds and not hand up in the air. Additionally, that level of arm talent allows the player to comfortably complete every throw on the route tree, regardless of location and hindrance. When discuss the mechanical aspect, Williams’ delivery can be shown as equal parts repeatable and pristine. From footwork that generates a strong base to the free-flowing shoulder movement, the player does not require much in the way of cleanup.
Normally, those areas are viewed as mutually exclusive. However, in evaluating the prospect, it fits. Williams’ ability to not only hit the target in stride, shielding away from potential harm, does not depend on location. That is to say, whether in the pocket or on the move, the accuracy stays pinpoint. More importantly, the touch on said passes remains unaffected. If a wideout sees the rush collapsing the pocket, and works back, Williams can still get the ball there without hesitation. Now, looking from a pure athletic aspect, Williams isn’t the biggest passer. Yet, he can not only break the pocket with burst, he keeps his eyes downfield before crossing the line of scrimmage. That separates him from many.
As mentioned, nothing on the field looks like a red flag. Meanwhile, a few off-field quirks, not so much behavior issue arose. First, can we get a reason behind the ” **** Utah” fingernails. While competitiveness is key, this passive-aggressive form of self-expression is odd. In addition, Utah had their way with USC and Williams on the regular. How will he deal with a tough loss or losing streak? In his defense, Williams is beloved by teammates, and that matters most. Yet, when the NFL media circles, can he handle it?
After the recent nine-year failure, the Raiders need a franchise quarterback, one that will lead and not wither under heat. Williams gets the job done on the field. Blessed with an exceptional arm and presence, he could be the person the Raiders need to lead them over a decade. On the other hand, the franchise future remains a rather murky. Currently, the team employs an interim head coach. Plus, the general manager situation is uncertain. Back to the field, in drafting Williams, the Raiders would bring in a player that sees the whole field as an opportunity and the wideouts as the vessel to deliver big plays.
