The Jets, coming off their ninth straight losing season, are about to play the NFL’s seventh-easiest schedule, facing opponents with a combined .460 win percentage from 2024. That won't hurt, but it won’t be enough.
Regular-season win total: 5.5 (BetMGM)
Outlook: The Jets may have hired former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be their new head coach, but offense should be the team’s No. 1 concern in 2025. New York gained the ninth-fewest yards (310.3) and points (19.9) per game with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers at quarterback last season.
This year, New York will start 26-year-old quarterback Justin Fields, a first-round pick of the Bears in 2021, but someone who’s already playing for his third team. Fields went 4-2 in six starts with the Steelers last season before being benched for Russell Wilson, who’s now with the Giants.

Aside from veteran players like running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, Fields should enjoy playing behind first-round right tackle Armand Membou and throwing passes to second-round tight end Mason Taylor, son of Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor.
Defensively, the Jets gave up the third-fewest yards per game in 2024 last season, but Glenn already has plans for the team’s 16th-ranked run defense.
"One thing we know we're going to attack, we'll be better against the run," Glenn told reporters at the NFL owners meetings. "You look back at what I've done over the last couple of years in run defense, we've been pretty good in that aspect, so we're going to try to continue to create that."
They’ll need to do something with running backs like Buffalo’s James Cook, Tampa Bay’s Bucky Irving and Miami’s De'Von Achane on tap in the team's first four games. Things get slightly better later in the year with games against the Jaguars, Saints and Patriots leading up to a regular-season finale on the road against the rival Bills.
Our take: The fact that New York went with Fields rather than draft or trade for a quarterback tells us that the Jets are playing for 2026, when highly touted quarterbacks like Tennessee’s Arch Manning and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier could be available.
Glenn probably understood this before coming aboard, which means Jets fans, predictably, are in for another long season.
Predicted win total: 4
