3 first-round trade ideas for Dallas Cowboys ahead of 2024 NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys aren't known for making first-round trades in the NFL Draft. The last time they moved up was back in 2012 when they got CB Morris Claiborne Jr. and the last time they moved down more than a couple picks was back in 2013.

But in 2024, it might make sense for them to make a deal or two. That's why we're looking into trade ideas for Day 1, whether they want to move up or down.

It's worth noting these deals were put together aiming for relatively even moves per the Rich Hill trade chart. Now let's play and pretend we're the Cowboys general manager(s).

The Realistic Trade Down

Cowboys get: 28th overall (1st round)
Bills get: 24th overall (1st), 128th (4th)

The Cowboys don't have a fourth rounder after acquiring QB Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers last year. You and I both know they value their picks so much that I wouldn't be surprised if getting back a pick is a priority for them this year.

In this scenario, they get a fourth back as the Buffalo Bills try to jump up to secure their preferred wide receiver over teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, among others.

The 'All In' Approach (NFL Draft Version)

Cowboys get: 13th overall (1st round)
Raiders get: 24th overall (1st), 87th (3rd)

Okay, now we're getting into unrealistic territory but we had to include at least one trade up scenario: The Cowboys have done nothing to prove they meant it when they claimed they were going all in in 2024. If they were actually serious about it (they were not), they could make a move to secure a top tackle in the first round.

Only problem is it would be too costly as the Cowboys would probably have to rid of their third round draft pick, which seems even more unlikely given they are already down their fourth rounder. But if they absolutely wanted to nail their first round pick by securing a left tackle for the future and leave Tyler Smith where he's best at, left guard, this would be a great way to do it.

The Raiders would get a chance at a quarterback farther down the first round while adding picks for their rebuild.

The 'Dancing With the Quinn' Trade

Cowboys get: 36th overall (2nd), 67th (3rd)
Commanders get: 24th overall (1st)

The Commanders are loaded with ammo to make moves throughout the NFL Draft and let me tell you this: They need edge rusher help. Moving up to 24th would give them a shot at DE Darius Robinson or another first-round pass rusher. Robinson fits Quinn's mold with size and position flex.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys could land a third-rounder while moving down to 36th. With so many holes to fill, this would be an attractive proposition for the team although they'd run the risk of missing out on their favorite offensive lineman.

This is, personally, my favorite trade idea of the above three. Plus, who doesn't love making a deal with a division rival?
