3 Former Raiders Get Honorably Recognized

On Thursday the Black College Football Hall of Fame announced 28 finalists, 23 players and five coaches to be in the Class of 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame 

There are three former Raiders that recently get honorably recognized for the Black College Football Hall of Fame class of 2024. Those former Raiders are George Atkinson, Tyrone Poole and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Atkinson who is a Morris Brown alum, is recognized as one of the most decorated players to play for the Silver and Black. He spent ten seasons playing for the Oakland Raiders. In those ten seasons Atkinson totaled 30 interceptions and 12 forced fumbles in his ten season span. Atkinson also returned 148 punts for 1,247 yards and three touchdowns and 76 kickoffs for 1,893 yards. He also won a Super Bowl and is a two time Pro Bowler.

Poole is also another former Raider nominated for the Class of 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame. He was a first round draft pick out of Fort Valley State University and played for the Silver and Black in 2006. In one season with the Raiders he finished with 14 solo tackles and an interception that season.

Lastly Rodgers-Cromartie is the last player who is nominated that represented the Silver and Black. He was a FCS All-American and also a three time first team All-OVC at Tennessee State. The two time Pro Bowler spent the 2018 season with the Raiders and played seven total games with one start.

Last year, Raiders Henry Lawrence and Albert Lewis were inducted in the Black College Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

The Black College Class of Hall of Fame will be announced on December 14th and a later induction ceremony will be June 8th, 2024 in Atlanta Georgia.
