3 Lions that may be due for disappointing 2025 seasons

The Lions' roster is full of players who will almost certainly improve and make significant impacts in 2025.

From Jack Campbell and Terrion Arnold to Christian Mahogany and Mekhi Wingo, the list is long in terms of Lions who should make huge jumps next season. Unfortunately, not everything is perfect in an NFL season. There will almost certainly be players who have disappointing seasons.

First of all, all of these guys are good players, hence why they have the ability to disappoint. Whether it be due to a previous injury, age, or an overachieving 2024, these guys would have the most understandable disappointing seasons for Detroit.

3 Lions that may be due for disappointing seasons

Taylor Decker

The only offensive player I have on this list is Taylor Decker. Decker will turn 31 before the beginning of the season, entering his tenth season with Detroit. Taylor Decker has been a stud at left tackle for the Lions for a long time now, but offensive linemen have a shelf life.

Decker has dealt with various injuries in his career. He has had injuries to his shoulders, back, groin, fingers, elbows, ankles, and knees in just the last eight seasons.

Decker was graded fairly well on PFF for his season as a whole, but there were moments throughout the season when he looked rough. Specifically, the Minnesota game early in the season was a struggle for him all game long.

Taylor Decker is one of my personal favorite Lions of all time, and I believe he still has a lot left in the tank, but with his age and injury history, it wouldn't be surprising to see him take a step back this year.

Derrick Barnes

Like everybody on this list, injuries got Derrick Barnes here. Barnes was the Lions' fourth-round draft pick in 2021 and struggled for his first few seasons. That was until two seasons ago, when Barnes figured it out with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Barnes ended up having the game-sealing interception in the divisional round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to send the Lions to the NFC Championship. Coming off of 2023, expectations were high for Barnes and the Lions' linebacker room.

Unfortunately, Barnes tore his MCL and PCL in the first month of the 2024 season and never saw the field again. My main concern here with Barnes is that he had just figured out how to play a tough position in the NFL, then he has a tragic injury and loses his coordinator in the same season.

Luckily, he his just 26 years old, so his chances of full recovery are increased, but the timing of the injury itself lands him on this list.

Amik Robertson

I previously said injuries and an overachieving last season would be a recipe to land on this list, and Robertson is the perfect example of that. Amik was very important to this Lions secondary, especially when Carlton Davis got injured.

He was able to play on the inside and the outside as a plethora of Lions injuries took place, and locked up the likes of Justin Jefferson during his time as the Lions' CB1. Unfortunately, in a collision with Jack Campbell during the divisional round game, Robertson broke his arm, effectively ending the Lions' season.

Luckily, there are a lot worse injuries for a cornerback to get in the NFL. According to Jimmy Liao, Robertson shouldn't have any long-term concerns with this injury. The main reason he landed on this list is how well he played toward the end of last season.

Because of his success, the standard will be much higher in 2024, leading to an opportunity for him to disappoint. Robertson is another crucial player for this Lions secondary, and they have an opportunity to be really good if he can get back to his dominant ways.
