3 Main Takeaways From 38-21 Win Over Eagles
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys delivered their best performance in weeks, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football to snap a two-game losing streak. Dallas found success through the air and on the ground, while its defense came up with a pivotal turnover to help put the game away in the second half.

The Cowboys finished with 416 total yards, including 204 rushing yards, and did not turn the ball over. Here are three main takeaways from Dallas’ win over its NFC East rival.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense finally found their stride

After scoring just 29 points combined in their previous two games, the Cowboys broke through with a 38-point performance against Philadelphia. Prescott threw three touchdown passes and finished with 212 passing yards, helping Dallas consistently move the ball against the Eagles’ defense.

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were central to the passing attack. Lamb scored twice, while Pickens added a touchdown reception of his own. Their ability to make plays gave Prescott reliable options in key moments and helped Dallas answer Philadelphia’s scoring drives.

The Cowboys also protected the football, finishing without a turnover. That was an important improvement after Prescott threw two interceptions in the Week 6 loss to Green Bay.

Dallas had struggled to maintain offensive consistency in recent weeks, but Monday’s performance showed what the unit can accomplish when the passing game produces explosive plays and the offense avoids costly mistakes. Maintaining that balance will be important as the Cowboys look to build on this divisional victory.

Javonte Williams and the running game finally arrives

Williams was one of the biggest difference-makers in the win, finishing with 155 rushing yards on 25 carries. His longest run went for 34 yards, and he averaged 6.2 yards per carry as Dallas finished with 204 rushing yards as a team.

The performance was particularly encouraging after Williams managed only 49 rushing yards per game across the Cowboys’ previous two contests. His production against Philadelphia gave Dallas a much-needed second dimension and helped prevent the Eagles from focusing exclusively on Prescott and the passing game.

Williams’ success also allowed Dallas to control the pace of the game and keep its offense on schedule. With the Cowboys converting eight of 13 third-down opportunities, their ability to sustain drives helped them finish with 25 first downs.

If Williams can continue producing at this level, Dallas will be a more difficult offense to defend. His performance against Philadelphia was a major step toward establishing the consistent ground game the Cowboys need for the remainder of the season.

DeMarvion Overshown and the defense made the critical plays

The Cowboys’ defense had struggled to generate takeaways earlier in the season, making Overshown’s interception of Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee a pivotal moment. Philadelphia was still within striking distance when Overshown came up with the interception in the fourth quarter, helping Dallas protect its lead and take control of the game.

Dallas also limited Philadelphia to 294 total yards, well below the Cowboys’ 416. The Eagles managed 178 passing yards and 116 rushing yards, while McKee finished with one touchdown pass and one interception. The Cowboys recorded two sacks, adding pressure at important moments.

The defense’s ability to create a turnover was especially significant because it gave the offense an opportunity to extend the lead rather than allowing Philadelphia another chance to make the game competitive.

Dallas does not need to be perfect defensively every week, but generating takeaways and making stops in critical situations can change the outcome of close games. Overshown’s interception was an example of the kind of playmaking the Cowboys need more consistently.

The 38-21 victory gives Dallas a much-needed boost after consecutive defeats. If the offense can maintain its balance and the defense continues making timely plays, the Cowboys will have a stronger foundation to build on moving forward.
