The Las Vegas Raiders signed former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins last offseason to bolster their defensive line. The team gave him a four-year deal worth $110 million, $82.75 million of which was guaranteed.
Unfortunately, Wilkins suffered a broken foot against the Denver Broncos in Week 5 last year and missed the remainder of the 2024 campaign. The Athletic's Tashan Reed reported last week that Wilkins' health is still in question as the OTA period of the offseason continues.
Wilkins has not participated yet in Phase 3 of the team's workouts, and head coach Pete Carroll said that it has been a "difficult process" for the six-year veteran. While Wilkins is still one of the best in the league when healthy, the Raiders may need to look for potential replacements if his absence drags on.
1. Sebastian Joseph-Day (Tennessee Titans)
Joseph-Day has six years of NFL experience under his belt, and he was a Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021 season. Last year for the Tennessee Titans, he recorded 2.5 sacks and 44 tackles.
He could be on the trade block because the Titans have several younger pieces on the defensive line that have shown promise, like T'Vondre Sweat. If Las Vegas sends a late-round pick in exchange for his talents, it might be a mutually beneficial move.
Smith is still a young player for the Cowboys, but he has not lived up to expectations through the first two years of his NFL career. The 2023 first-round pick has recorded just 2.0 sacks and 54 tackles through 34 career games.
The Cowboys drafted two defensive tackles in this year's draft and added veteran Solomon Thomas, so at the right price, Dallas could entertain a trade. This may cost more capital for the Raiders than Joseph-Day does, but it would be the kind of move made if Wilkins' long-term outlook is not optimistic.
Hurst was drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and he spent three seasons with the franchise. He got off to a hot start in his NFL career, but after a dip in production during the 2020 campaign, the team waived him during the following offseason.
Last year, Hurst recorded just a 45.3 PFF grade, but he earned a career-high 81.0 nod in 2023. He has earned a grade of 71.0 or higher in five of his six NFL seasons, and he would be a cheap addition at this point in the offseason for Las Vegas.
