There are two preseason games left on the schedule for the Seahawks, meaning every single snap is precious and valuable if you’re fighting for a job. If my assumption about this game being a showcase for the backups is correct, for some, this might be the last chance. Let’s talk about three players in particular who need to impress tomorrow.
Probably the most obvious one. Milroe did some good things last week against the Cowboys, but he also did some bad things, and overall showed fairly marginal improvement from last year. If Darnold gets snaps against the Chiefs, as I believe he will, Jalen’s opportunities to make a positive impression will be limited to whatever drives are left after Lock’s time.
That means this Titans game is Milroe’s shot. And it might be the last one, since it’s unlikely he’ll be getting snaps in the regular season, and the upcoming offseason might be an opportunity for the Seahawks to pivot off of him if they’re not impressed. The 2027 draft is rich with quarterbacks, so Jalen needs to give the team a reason to not sniff around in eight months.
The Jake Bobo injury from yesterday’s joint practice has opened the door for another wide receiver to make this team. Based on everything we’ve heard from training camp, Montorie Foster Jr seems like he’s good to go. But that leaves an opening for someone, and while I’d expect Cody White to be the clubhouse leader, the door is open.
Emmanuel Henderson Jr is younger and cheaper than White, and was a special teams whiz in college, so the primary remaining question is whether he can offer something on offense. Make a few plays tomorrow evening, and I could see Henderson jumping the line a bit. Bobo’s main value was on special teams, so getting a rookie who can fill that hole would be big.
I suspect that Morris will make the team, but he is entering the final year of his contract, which makes money a consideration. Mike is built like an interior defensive lineman, but the team already has enough of those, particularly if Brandon Pili makes it. However, the team likes to utilize him as an oversized edge, which is where things become compelling.
The team could use a fifth edge rusher to take a handful of snaps a game, and none of the obvious candidates did much to stand out last week. Morris, however, got into the backfield a couple of times, and if he ends up being the best option, then there may be a role for him yet.
