3 Things To Know About New Browns RB/WR Demetric Felton

Felton was listed as a wide receiver on the draft board, but he could also be considered a running back.

That versatility was probably the deciding factor in the Browns using their final draft pick in 2021 to select him.

In four seasons (including a pandemic-shortened 2020), Felton’s receiving yards were nearly equal to his rushing yards.

In 233 rushes, he had 1,101 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Felton caught 99 passes for 958 yards and 8 touchdowns.

When asked what position Felton will be listed at for the Browns, Coach Stefanski said:

“I think he starts in the running back room, but part of the appeal to Demetric was his ability to line up all over, speaking of versatility,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “I think we list him as a running back, but we need to get him on campus and see what he can handle and see what he can do. He got plenty of reps down there at the Senior Bowl where he’s lining up all over…That’s a to-be-determined role, but you can pencil him in as a running back at this moment.”

2. Felton Said Draft Was Nerve Wracking

We often wonder what these kids are thinking as the draft gets close to the end.

Felton shared his feelings about the draft experience but displays a great attitude and anticipation for his NFL career.

He said:

“It’s super nerve-wracking, there’s nothing like it. But at the end of the day I’m really excited for the opportunity and I’m really glad that the Browns picked me up. I’m ready to go in there and show ‘em that they got a steal.”

3. Felton Is Fast And Is Inspired By Two Speedy NFL Stars

Speed is not an issue for him.

The 5’10” 200 pound Felton ran a 4.58 40 at UCLA’s Pro Day in March.

When asked who he is inspired by in the NFL, Felton said:

“I watched a lot of Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey. Those are both great backs that I try to model my game after because of their versatility. They showed that they can be split out wide and be able to run routes against defensive backs. When you put them against linebackers, it is impossible for the linebackers to guard them. I feel like I am the same way. Linebackers are not able to stay with me and I am able to get at DBs so that is something that I tried to hone in on at my time at UCLA.”

Of course, Felton is a logical choice to play special teams and has already talked with Coach Priefer about this.

Felton said:

“I met him early in the process. Me and him had a really good conversation and it made me really want to go there. Being able to talk to him and see how he wanted to use me, that just made me super excited.”
