3 under-the-radar players the Lions can steal ahead of the trade deadline, one Detroit has already shown interest in

The NFL trade deadline is right around the corner, so here's an article that doesn't have anything to do with the Detroit Lions making a trade. It doesn't get talked about much, but around the deadline every year, there's a bit of a rise in practice squad poaching.

It's nothing crazy, but there is an uptick for sure. Mostly because there's roster churn going on. Teams didn't make a trade, but still wanted to grab someone, or a team did make a trade and needed a body.

If the Lions don't get involved at the trade deadline, we've got three guys that are worth poaching from other teams' practice squads. You have to know that none of these guys are starters, but they can all contribute now and have a chance at bigger roles in the future.

Bradyn Swinson, Edge, New England Patriots

The Patriots took Swinson in the fifth round of this year's draft after he had a really good season at LSU, putting up 60 pressures and nine sacks. He got beat out at training camp, and the Pats cut him at final cutdown before bringing him back on the practice squad.

He has yet to see the field during the regular season. The Lions could get themselves a bit of project here with some real upside.

Jabbar Muhammad, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars

One of my personal favorite players of this past year's draft class, there is no doubt that Muhammad is small at 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds, but this guy is as scrappy as they come, and he was a legit problem at Oregon. I still say that if he were 6-foot, 200 pounds, he would have gone Day 2 of the draft. Instead, he went undrafted.

The Jags' defense is pretty solid, and that kept Muhammad off the 53-man roster, but in Detroit, he could have a shot to get some playing time on special teams, and we've seen what Kelvin Sheppard can do with guys you've never heard of.

Ultimately, Muhammad could be the Lions' new version of Kindle Vildor. That fifth or sixth corner who can play well on special teams and can handle snaps on defense when they come his way.

Pooh Paul, LB, Seattle Seahawks

I will never stop trying to get this guy to the Lions. I don't understand what happened here. The Lions met with him multiple times during the pre-draft process, and then it just didn't happen.

They have a great linebacker corps, but Alex Anzalone is in the last year of his deal. Maybe I'm an insane person, but I see Paul as a guy who can take that role. Maybe not right away, but in the future.

It's strange that he's on a practice squad at all. He had a good summer for the Rams, and their fanbase was pretty upset when they couldn't find a spot for him. The fifth-round pick was shockingly cut, and the Seahawks swooped in and grabbed him before the Rams could add him back to their practice squad.

It's not that he's a bad player; it's that he's not ready yet. In my opinion, the Lions are the best team for him. Here's another chance to get him.
