46-year-old Tom Brady runs faster 40-yard dash than original combine time

Few who’ve seen Tom Brady‘s 40-yard dash at the 2000 NFL Scouting Combine will ever forget it. The NFL legend’s Average Joe performance on that day contributed to the QB dropping to pick No. 199 in the draft. Now, at 46 years old, the former Patriots star is running even faster than he did as a 22-year-old draft hopeful.

On Thursday, Brady posted a video of him running the 40-yard dash. Overlaid with his 2000 Combine run, it’s clear that the seven-time Super Bowl Champion has come a long way with his athleticism in 24 years. He clocked a 5.12 in the clip, compared to 5.28 at the combine.

Brady recently announced that his Brady Brand was partnering with NOBULL footwear and apparel in a merger that makes the two brands one new entity. Of course, he opted to wear the NOBULL shoes to do his 40-yard dash. He also posted, “Sub 5.00 next year. Level up,” in response to the clip.

Brady preparing for his first season as NFL broadcaster

On top of promoting his new brand partnership, Brady is preparing to dive into NFL broadcasting this season. He is joining Kevin Burkhardt as FOX’s lead analyst for their NFL game coverage.

Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with FOX last offseason following his retirement and will replace their current analyst and former NFL tight end Greg Olsen. On the ‘Pat McAfee Show’ he opened up about how he’s been preparing for his new role ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

“I’ve been to FOX Studios a few times and done some really dry runs with Kevin who’s tremendous at what he does,” Brady told McAfee. “I’m super excited to join an amazing team, Rich Russo and Richie Zyontz, we talk a lot about football, we talked a lot about how I see the game.”

Brady believes that his complete experience as a player even outside of his championship success will help him in his new endeavor.

“I’ve been a part of a lot of Super Bowls, championship games, I’ve had some seasons that didn’t go the way we wanted, I’ve had some injuries. Undrafted rookie, I’ve seen guys come in with great expectations and not meet them, I’ve seen underdogs like Julian Edelman come along and make it,” Brady explained.

“So again, I think I’ve had 23 years of just observing and I get to go on now and speak to a wider audience and I used to my body and my brain out there and people would see me kind of lead the team down the field and now I get to do that in a different way using my voice.”
