49ers add Darrell Luter Jr. to PUP list ahead of training camp
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Per the NFL transaction wire, the San Francisco 49ers are adding defensive back Darrell Luter Jr. to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of training camp.

In April, the team made Luter (6-0, 189) a fifth-round draft pick out of South Alabama. The defensive back registered 42 tackles, 0.5 tackles for a loss, seven passes defensed, and an interception through 13 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per Sports Reference. He recorded 91 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 18 passes defensed, five interceptions, and a forced fumble through his three collegiate seasons.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Luter will likely have an opportunity to work his way back to the practice field in the coming weeks. It is currently unclear what injury he is working through, as the NFL transaction wire only declares changes in roster statuses.

49ers rookies reported to training camp today, but the real action will kick off next week after veterans arrive. Until then, the first-year players will participate in strength and conditioning. The entire 49ers coaching staff is expected to report later this week.
