The San Francisco 49ers continue to tweak the coaching staff after an incredibly disappointing 2024 that saw a 6-11 record and a fourth-place finish in the division.
The 49ers missed the postseason for just the second time since 2019 and general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan are making moves to ensure they don't have a repeat performance in 2025.
The defense will already presumably be better after returning former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh back into the fold. And now, per Matt Zenith of CBS Sports, the 49ers are hiring Ray Brown as their cornerbacks coach.
Last season, Browns served as the secondary coach for Boston College under Bill O'Brien after spending two seasons at Washington State as the cornerbacks coach.
He also had an earlier stint at Washington State and has been at Utah State, Troy and Abilene Christian in previous stops.
Shanahan has yet to disclose his full coaching staff for 2025 so other moves should be expected before the team kicks off its training camp.
49ers opponents threw the ball almost 54 percent of the time last season with a 65.5 completion percentage. Teams also threw for an average of 192.8 yards per game while throwing 30.4 times per contest.
