49ers Announce The Offseason Plan For Christian McCaffrey

It was a tough 2024 season for San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.

He only played in four games due to various injuries throughout the season, including a PCL tear that ended his season in December. He finished the year with 50 carries for 202 yards and no touchdowns.

The 49ers missed the playoffs with a 6-11 record, which was good for last in the NFC West. It came a year after they went to Super Bowl LVIII but lost in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs.

McCaffrey is expected to be healthy for the 2025 season, but according to 49ers general manager John Lynch, he will only participate in part of the offseason program. Lynch also confirmed that he's doing super well in his recovery.

“Christian’s doing really well. I think he was really frustrated with the way last season went. He’s doing everything possible as he did in preparation for last year. We’re hoping ‘CMC’ is out there and going to have a tremendous year," Lynch said via ProFootballTalk

The 49ers are still all in on trying to win a Super Bowl heading into the 2025 NFL season. They feel their window is still open and are set to pay quarterback Brock Purdy this offseason.

They'll also get wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk back after he missed most of the 2024 season with a torn ACL. He finished the year with 25 receptions for 374 yards and no touchdowns.

McCaffrey has been with the 49ers for two and a half seasons after they acquired him in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. His best season came in 2023 when he finished with 272 carries for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He'll try to repeat that when the 2025 NFL regular season starts in September.
