Trent Williams is looking to help lead the San Francisco 49ers to a win on Sunday night against the Chicago Bears. They are seeking their sixth consecutive win as the Niners continue to chase the Seattle Seahawks for the top spot in the NFC West.
Unfortunately for San Francisco, they lost Williams in the opening snap of the game after Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards picked off quarterback Brock Purdy. Williams put up a good chase on the interception, but the three-time All-Pro tackle ended up injuring his hamstring on the play.
The Niners not only conceded a pick-six in their first offensive play of the game, but they ended up losing one of their most important players as well.
Williams was forced to exit the game after the opening sequence and was checked in the medical tent for 11 minutes. When he emerged, the 37-year-old walked gingerly toward the bench with his helmet removed.
The team then announced that the 13-time Pro Bowler has been deemed questionable to return.
“Injury Update: Trent Williams is questionable to return (hamstring),” the team posted on X.

It is worth noting that Williams missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, then logged a limited session on Friday. However, the Niners did say that his absences were for rest and not because of an injury. The 16-year veteran has started all 15 games for the Niners so far this season.
This development now casts doubt on Williams' status not only for Sunday's game but also for the Niners' next matchup. San Francisco will close out its campaign with a Week 18 showdown against the Seahawks, with the division title potentially on the line.
The Niners should be able to provide an update on Williams' status after the game. For now, the San Francisco faithful have no choice but to hope this is not a serious concern that carries over into the playoffs.
