The San Francisco 49ers remain undefeated after edging the Seattle Seahawks 32-29 in a hard-fought Week 5 matchup at Lumen Field on Sunday. Eddy Piñeiro’s 44-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining secured the victory, helping San Francisco to a 5-0 start to the 2026 NFL season. Brock Purdy threw two touchdown passes, while Mike Evans led the receiving corps with 113 yards and a touchdown.
The win came as the 49ers continued to navigate a growing list of injuries. San Francisco was already without several contributors, including defensive end Nick Bosa and fullback Kyle Juszczyk, while wide receivers Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson have also been unavailable. Tight end George Kittle was another concern heading into the Seahawks game after dealing with an illness, but he was cleared to play and suited up for the divisional matchup.
However, the 49ers have now received another difficult update involving wide receiver Deebo Samuel. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Samuel is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a hamstring pull against Seattle.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the outlook to reporters on Monday. The latest update is another significant concern for San Francisco’s receiving corps.

Samuel sustained the injury during the third quarter while attempting a two-yard end-around. He lost possession of the ball as he went down, allowing Seattle to recover at the San Francisco 36-yard line. The turnover led to a Jason Myers field goal that gave the Seahawks a 26-21 lead at the time. Samuel was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Before leaving, Samuel recorded two receptions for 21 yards and two carries for four yards. He entered the matchup with 14 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns this season.
His absence will further test a receiving group already dealing with multiple injuries, particularly with the 49ers preparing for a Week 6 “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Washington Commanders on Oct. 19.
