49ers CB Charvarius Ward itching to pick off Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, jokes about getting Jets QB to sign ball for him
Michael Chow/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

Charvarius Ward is one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL for a reason. It is hard to get past him, and quarterbacks ought to think twice before they throw the ball in his direction.

Ward is special for another reason: he has played for the Kansas City Chiefs and is currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers.

Charvarius Ward won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2020, ironically by beating the 49ers. He then hoped to get paid in free agency, but when Kansas City failed to show him the money, San Francisco took advantage of the situation and swooped in to offer him a three-year contract worth $40 million.

Now, Ward is looking forward to living up to his worth as he looks forward to facing Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets in Week 1 of the 2024–25 season. Ward revealed recently on the Up & Adams show that he aims to pick off Rodgers in the game.

Hopefully, Aaron owe me one. I'mma try to pick him off and have him sign the ball for me. He gotta give me a opportunity. I'm pretty sure I'm probably going to be following Garrett Wilson around...he they big dog and I'm the big dog of the team so we're going to see in this case. Charvarius Ward said.

The cornerback’s primary goal in Game 1 of the season is to intercept Rodgers and then immediately get him to sign the game ball for him.

Charvarius Ward gave props to Aaron Rodgers for being an all-time great QB

He acknowledged the challenge that Garrett Wilson will pose to the defense, as he is a talented wideout and is undoubtedly one of the best offensive players on the Jets.

However, at the same time, he is confident in his abilities to lock him down throughout the game. The Week 1 matchup is bound to be exciting as the Jets will finally be at their full potential with Aaron Rodgers back.

Charvarius Ward went on to give Rodgers his flowers and acknowledge his potential as one of the great QBs of all time.

Aaron Rodgers a pretty cool guy, I played against him a couple times when I was in Kansas City, he a helluva player. Charvarius Ward said

In 2023–24, Ward had 61 solo tackles, ranking 18th in the NFL, 5 interceptions, and 94 targets thrown his way. He is arguably one of the best corners in the NFL to do it, but this season, his ultimate goal is to get back to the Super Bowl and beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the process. Although he has no bad blood towards his old team, he does desire to win and get his second Super Bowl ring in the process.
