Charvarius Ward enjoyed an All-Pro campaign in the 2023 season, and the San Francisco 49ers cornerback clearly played part of a hugely impressive year with an injury.
Ward confirmed in a post on his Instagram story that he undergone successful surgery on an undisclosed injury. His post featured the caption "surgery was a breeze".
In his second season with San Francisco, Ward recorded a league-high 23 pass breakups and five interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Ward's passer rating when targeted of 64.5 was the lowest of his career, while he was fourth among all cornerbacks in Sports Info Solutions' points saved metric in coverage.
For pass defense points saved, defensive backs are measured on how often they are targeted above expectation, with the value that pass-catchers and quarterbacks gain on a completion taken away from the defender.
There is no indication yet as to when Ward might be cleared to return to the field, but his description of the surgery suggests the recovery shouldn't be anything that impedes his preparations for the 2024 season.
