Christian McCaffrey wasn't on the field for the San Francisco 49ers' final touchdown against the Detroit Lions that essentially sealed their remarkable comeback win in the NFC Championship Game.
McCaffrey hurt his shoulder on the 25-yard carry that set up Elijah Mitchell's three-yard touchdown plunge that put the 49ers up 34-24.
But there is no concern about him not being on the field for the Super Bowl 58 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
McCaffrey was in obvious discomfort after going down awkwardly on the tackle from Kerby Joseph during the 34-31 victory.
But asked about the injury in his postgame press conference, McCaffrey replied: "I'm not a doctor, but I feel fine now.
"My shoulder felt a little weird, and I just didn't want to not be able to grip the ball, especially in a crucial time like that. And Mitch is unbelievable, so he goes in there and gets a touchdown. I mean, I was happy and proud of him and our whole team, but I didn't care at all. We scored. That's all I cared about."
It was tough sledding for much of the night for McCaffrey, but he still finished with 132 scrimmage yards and two rushing touchdowns. His efforts saw him become only the third player after Marcus Allen (first seven playoff games) and Terrell Davis (seven) to record at least 50 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in each of his first six career playoff games.
Should McCaffrey tie that Hall of Fame duo against a Chiefs defense that struggles against the run, the 49ers will have an excellent shot of lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
