49ers DT accuses Jaguars’ Brandon Scherff of dirty play

The San Francisco 49ers defense had its way with the Jacksonville Jaguars in Sunday’s 34-3 road win to the tune of 16 pressures, six hurries, five sacks, four QB hits, two interceptions and two forced fumbles and recoveries.

Perhaps the 49ers defense was even more incentivized to ratchet up the pressure after a play late in the first quarter when 49ers defensive tackle Arik Armstead went to the ground with a right knee injury he said was caused by some questionable tactics used by Jaguars offensive lineman Brandon Scherff.

“He tripped me, kicked me in my knee and kind of messed up my day,” Armstead told reporters after the game. “I didn't know what happened. I have a lot of respect for him, but tripping me, kicking me in my knee, [I] could have got seriously hurt. It was just a dirty play.”

The 49ers medical staff attended to Armstead, who was helped to the sideline, where he remained for a while before returning later in the game. He ended the game with three tackles, one pressure, a QB hit and ½ a sack while playing 34 of the team’s 57 defensive snaps (60%).

Conversely, Scherff, Jacksonville’s starting right guard, was the only member of the Jags offensive line to not allow any pressures or hurries in Sunday’s loss. Perhaps we now know why.
