The San Francisco 49ers are saving approximately $1.3 million by releasing long snapper Taybor Pepper , but this move leaves the team needing a reliable replacement. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the 49ers are "legitimately interested" in former Houston Texans long snapper Jon Weeks, a free agent, to fill the newly created void.
#49ers are legitimately interested in #Texans free agent long snapper Jon Weeks, a former Pro Bowl selection, per a league source, as the potential replacement for Taybor Pepper, who's being released. This could very well happen as new team for Weeks. @KPRC2— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 13, 2025
The 49ers recently hired Brant Boyer as special teams coordinator to improve the unit's overall performance. The special teams struggled last season under Brian Schneider, who was fired.
Weeks, a veteran Pro Bowl long snapper, went undrafted in 2008 but didn't join an NFL team until the Texans signed him in 2010. At 39 years old, however, Weeks may only serve as a short-term long snapper solution for the 49ers.
