San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Mykel Williams recently joined Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show, where he was asked about his quarterback—now one of the NFL's highest-paid—Brock Purdy. Purdy recently signed a five-year, $265 million extension. Naturally, that didn't end the ongoing debate about whether he's truly worth elite quarterback money.

While Williams is still settling in with his new team, he's already confident in the man under center. He believes he knows greatness when he sees it.

"Brock's the guy. I believe in Brock Purdy," Williams told Adams.

When pressed on why he has such unwavering faith in Purdy, the rookie pass rusher pointed to the quarterback's accomplishments.

"He's done it," Williams said. "He's [gone] to the Super Bowl. He's shown that he can take the team to that realm, so why not pay him? Why not believe in him?"

Williams also shared his early impressions of life as a Niner, praising the guidance he's received from defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and All-Pro edge rusher Nick Bosa.

"He's a great teammate, just telling me little stuff about angles and timing and hands," Williams explained. "He's really been adding to my game."

As for Saleh's scheme, Williams said, "It allows me to go be the pass rusher and the run stopper that I can be. It allows me to play to my strengths. And I just thank Saleh for having this scheme and this system."
