49ers GM: Brock Purdy 'confirmed' special narrative vs. Packers

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch insisted during a Thursday morning appearance on the KNBR "Murph and Markus" program that quarterback Brock Purdy "confirmed" late in this past Saturday's 24-21 divisional playoff win over the Green Bay Packers that he can be a QB1 for a Super Bowl-winning squad.

"Whatever you call that, his mettle, his resolve, his resiliency, his ability, all of it," Lynch said about Purdy, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone.

Purdy struggled versus the Packers in wet and rainy conditions, particularly after dual-threat offensive weapon Deebo Samuel suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter of the contest. However, Lynch pointed out that the 24-year-old completed six of seven passes for 47 yards during a game-winning drive that would've featured Purdy going a perfect 7-of-7 if not for a drop committed by star tight end George Kittle.

"And so you talk about who embodies more 'be at your best when your best is needed,'" Lynch continued while speaking about Purdy. "For the most part this season, Brock's been really playing at a high level throughout, and when we needed him most, he was there in tough conditions against a good defense, all of that."

Purdy raised eyebrows when he recently revealed he would've lost his starting job last year to Tom Brady if Lynch and/or head coach Kyle Shanahan could've convinced Brady to come out of retirement. Earlier this week, former Pro Bowl wide receiver Greg Jennings called for the 49ers to replace Purdy with Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears this offseason.

"That's all noise, and people have jobs to do, but I think the noise we concern ourselves with is the noise, and really the reality, within our team, and that's what matters most," Lynch said about constant criticisms of Purdy. "It's not lip service. These guys have his back because they know he has theirs, and they know he makes us better."

As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the 49ers as 7.5-point favorites to defeat the Detroit Lions in this Sunday's NFC Championship Game held at San Francisco's Levi's Stadium.
