49ers GM John Lynch Swears ‘We Have a Big-Things Plan!'

The San Francisco 49ers are imploding and no one told general manager John Lynch.

The 49ers have jettisoned a number of key contributors since free agency started. They failed to match offers and flat out waived players they could no longer afford to keep under the inflated salary cap.

Lynch said the 49ers have a plan...for the future. He did not speak of the present. Although he did mention the 49ers have 11 draft choices in next month's NFL Draft. They are thinking of a long-term fix.

"The bottom line is you're always looking at years out,' Lynch said to media gathered on the Palo Alto campus. "And we forecast it, and we've got some big things coming our way. And you have to clear the requisite room to be able to do that. And you don't want to get to a point where you have to do things to keep your roster afloat. You want to have that flexibility."

Lynch must deal with the here and now. He has a problem with his quarterback Brock Purdy and the gargantuan contract extension he is projected to sign. The 49ers don't have the cap room without making big changes, like they have already started doing.

They are going to pay Purdy a lot of money with nothing in the cupboard to work with. Lynch talks big and said big things are coming, but he stood silent as to what those "big things" were which are coming the 49ers way.

He also failed to explain how he was planning on signing Purdy to his record extension and still keep the team afloat.

But if he does do all of that while getting San Francisco back on the winning track?

That will indeed be “big.”
