San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw will serve a one-game, unpaid suspension after his appeal was denied. Greenlaw will miss the team's Monday, October 19, matchup against the Washington Commanders at Levi's Stadium.

Greenlaw was ejected from the 49ers' Week 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks after headbutting Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV with his helmet while Jones was not wearing one.

The incident followed a hit on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold after he stepped out of bounds. Seattle players then converged on Greenlaw, leading to the confrontation with Jones.

On Monday, the NFL announced Greenlaw's suspension, classifying his actions as unsportsmanlike conduct. The linebacker appealed the decision, but the league upheld the penalty.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed disappointment with the original decision earlier this week.

"I was disappointed they decided to do that, but it is what it is," he said.

Greenlaw's absence leaves the 49ers without a key contributor for their Week 6 matchup against Washington.
