49ers' Mac Jones could be traded under one condition

With Sam Darnold, Jayden Daniels, Jaxson Dart and Caleb Williams all suffering early season injuries, the importance of having a reliable backup has been on full display again.

The San Francisco 49ers know a thing or two about that. They even found their franchise quarterback after a string of unfortunate injuries, so they may not want to let Mac Jones go. Jones was stellar as Brock Purdy's replacement last season, and he would probably be a starter for multiple teams, even before all the injuries.

That's why Bay Area radio host Mark Willard of 95.7 The Game believes the 49ers could be open to changing their stance on their backup quarterback, provided the other team is willing to overpay.

“Usually, trades at the trade deadline are not player-for-player in the NFL. It’s usually a pick for a player,” Willard said. “So I get that. But if there’s a team that has really arrived at a position of need and they’re desperate and they’re willing to overpay, and you could, for instance, get a pick and a player or whatever in return, I’d sure be open to it. And the reason is simply this: He’s a free agent, so he’s going to be gone after this year one way or another.”
