For the past few months, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been mentioned in several trade rumors.
The 49ers signed Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million extension prior to the start of the 2024 season. This was after the two sides had heated negotiations for the majority of the offseason. Unfortunately for the All-Pro wideout, his 2024 campaign was cut short by a season-ending ACL injury. He finished the year with 25 receptions for 374 yards.
There have been rumblings about the 49ers still having sour grapes over the way Aiyuk handled contract negotiations in 2024. At the end of the day though, the front office in San Francisco has elected to keep the talented wideout for the 2025 season.
On Tuesday, the 49ers paid Aiyuk's $22.85 million option bonus. He's now owed $24.8 million this year and roughly $27 million in 2026. Suffice to say, he won't be going anywhere this offseason.
"There are no regrets," 49ers general manager John Lynch said. "We love Brandon Aiyuk as a football player. We did when we drafted him. We’re excited to move forward with him.
"We’ve always been interested in Brandon being a part of the Niners. We made that decision when we signed him. It’s good to hear that he’s tracking well with his progress. He’s working really hard to do so. And I fully expect Brandon Aiyuk will be a part of us moving forward."
When healthy, Aiyuk can be a real difference-maker for the 49ers. During the 2023 season, he hauled in 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
Aiyuk isn't expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 season. He's still recovering from his ACL injury.
The 49ers have not yet shared a timetable for Aiyuk's return to action.
