To say that the last six months have been brutal for the San Francisco 49ers would be an understatement.
They suffered an injury epidemic, got trounced by the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs as Seattle marched to a Super Bowl win and then watched the Los Angeles Rams trade for Myles Garrett.
Kyle Shanahan's team has plenty of catching up to do in its own division, let alone the rest of the league.
That's why they might have a huge move up their sleeve. According to 49ers insider Grant Cohn, they will stir the pot in the Maxx Crosby trade market again.
"The 49ers aren't necessarily done making moves," Cohn wrote. "They sat and watched as the Rams traded for the best defensive player in the NFL, Myles Garrett. But according to a source, they're one of several teams still interested in trading for Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby."
Cohn recalled how the Raiders nearly traded Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens before Baltimore backed out at the eleventh hour. As such, the Raiders may want to wait until the season so Crosby can play and drive his trade value back up before seriously considering making a move.
Regardless, the 49ers will have the assets to pull the trigger and give up whatever the Raiders ask for his services.
"Theoretically, the 49ers could offer a first-rounder and Mykel Williams to the Raiders for Crosby. If the Raiders would prefer a second-round pick rather than Williams, who was the 11th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the 49ers could do that as well," added Cohn.
The Garrett trade proved that no one is truly untouchable in the league.
And, as much as the Raiders might say that they're happy keeping Crosby and won't reconsider trading him, the rest of the league already knows their asking price.
