49ers minicamp: Brandon Aiyuk's recovery progress update

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was present during the team's first practice of mandatory minicamp, offering a positive sign in his recovery process. While Aiyuk wasn't in uniform or participating in intense drills, a video shared by Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group shows the wideout casually going through motions with teammates—an encouraging step as he works his way back from injury.

Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL sustained in Week 7 of the 2024 season. He isn't expected to be fully ready for the start of the 2025 regular season, but the 49ers remain optimistic that the star receiver can return at some point during the year and make an impact.

Wideouts Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall are projected to be the Week 1 starters when the 49ers open the season on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on September 7. Both were seen conditioning on the side during Tuesday's minicamp session. Pearsall has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury.

After trading Deebo Samuel, San Francisco bolstered its wide receiver depth this offseason by signing veteran Demarcus Robinson. However, Robinson is facing a potential three-game suspension to start the season.

Additionally, the team used two draft picks on receivers, selecting Jordan Watkins in the fourth round and Junior Bergen in the seventh.

Before his injury, Aiyuk appeared in seven games, recording 25 receptions for 374 yards. He signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension prior to the 2024 season.
