The 49ers conclude the preseason in Houston, Texas, Thursday night against the Texans. There are a lot of questions and position battles that still need to be answered before the regular season. Most of the 49ers’ questions will be answered during their preseason finale. Keep an eye on these five 49ers players during the preseason finale.

Jordan Mason

After an impressive preseason game in Minnesota, Mason looks to continue to impress against the Texans. Mason runs hard and angry, has good vision, and if he can show he can block, then he will be able to push for a roster spot. The 49ers have a crowded running back room with Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson Jr., Kyle Juszczyk, JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon, and Mason. Plus, don’t forget that Deebo Samuel will get touches in the backfield too. So a question many 49ers fans have is, will the undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech force his way onto the roster?  Mason is on of the many 49ers players to watch against Houston.

49ers Offensive Tackle Colton McKivitz

The third-year 49ers offensive tackle out of West Virginia will step in at right tackle in place of injured first-round pick, Mike McGlinchey. The offensive line is not the most appealing to watch during a game, especially during the preseason, but if McGlinchey is out for an extended period, McKivitz will be the man to take over at the right tackle position week one in Chicago. So keep an eye out for how McKivitz handles right tackle duties in McGlinchey’s absence.

49ers Cornerback Samuel Womack

The defensive secondary is a critical position that fans should watch tonight. Fans should watch for Samuel Womack III, the rookie out of Toledo. He has made impressive plays during joint practices and the first two preseason games. Womack III has good speed, is intelligent, and can make plays on the football in the air-guarding wide receivers. One thing to look for is if Womack III can stay in coverage with elite starting wide receivers in the NFL and the NFC West, like Cooper Kupp, DeAndre Hopkins, and D.K. Metcalf down the field. Womack III has a chance to be a starter in the 49ers secondary if he continues to make plays on the field.

Trey Lance

One of the most highly anticipated 49ers players to watch is Trey Lance. The 49ers’ faithful want to see Lance and how he performs with the starters during the preseason finale. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he will get a couple of series with the starters. One aspect coaches and fans should keep an eye on is if Lance can complete the intermediate routes in the flat and in middle of the field, especially on third-down opportunities. Lance has all the abilities that a star quarterback in the NFL has, intelligence, a strong arm, accuracy down the field, and pocket presence. One question that fans have is can he make the short and intermediate throws to keep a drive alive in pressure situations? If he can do that, then the 49ers will have a special season.
