49ers Predicted to Draft Christian McCaffrey Clone

When Christian McCaffrey is healthy, he is as good as he gets. When he is not healthy, the San Francisco 49ers have a problem.

After losing most of their depth at the running back position this offseason to free agency and to a trade, the 49ers have to restock the cupboard via the NFL Draft which starts on April 24.

There is definitely a need for a McCaffrey backup who, quite frankly, resembles McCaffrey. NFL insider Grant Cohn has an idea. The 49ers should draft a running back who does the same thing McCaffrey does.

He believes the 49ers should spend a fourth-round pick and draft Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen.

"He's 6'0", 204 lbs and he has 32-inch arms, so he's built like a wide receiver and he runs routes like one, too," Cohn said. "Last season, he caught 64 passes for 520 receiving yards. He also gained 1,021 rushing yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns."

Cohn said he is not comparing the players' abilities, but he is saying Allen has the same skill set McCaffrey has. They are both punishing runners who have a nose for the goal line or the first-down marker.

Cohn also added that Quint is the most recent in a long time of quality Syracuse running backs that go back 75 years.

Perhaps Quint will be on the board in the fourth round when the 49ers select and John Lynch will use a draft choice on him and take a Baby McCaffrey that can help spell the veteran when he needs a breather or in the event he were to reinjure himself.
