The San Francisco 49ers earned a fourth playoff appearance in five years after going 12-5. However, their season ended after a divisional round loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
While Brock Purdy missed eight games during the regular season due to injury, the offense still had solid production. The unit finished the season tied for seventh in total yards per game (351.4) and ranked 10th in points per game (25.7).
Whether it was Purdy or Mac Jones starting, San Francisco was also without a true No. 1 wide receiver. Jauan Jennings was the 49ers' leading wide receiver with 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns. However, with an expiring contract, he is slated to hit free agency on March 11.
It's an area of concern for the 49ers now, into the offseason. With $22.5 million in available cap space, a wide receiver could be addressed through free agency. San Francisco could also turn toward the 2026 NFL Draft.
CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli predicts that the 49ers will select Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston with the No. 27 pick.
"I could be wishcasting here, but I've watched Denzel Boston at Washington the last two years and have felt all along that he's a player who would flourish in a Kyle Shanahan offense, so why not just put him in Kyle Shanahan's offense?" Fornelli wrote. "He's a big body with fantastic hands and is a precise route runner who thrives on the kind of timing routes the 49ers utilize."
Boston wrapped up his fourth season with the Huskies. In that time, he's racked up 132 receptions, 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns. 2025 was his most productive year with career highs in yards (881) and touchdowns (11). His Pro Football Focus overall grade of 87.7 ranked 13th out of 676 wide receivers.
With the draft not beginning until April 23, how the 49ers attack free agency could shift who they focus on with their first-round pick. However, surrounding Purdy withanother receiving threat before his fifth NFL season is considered a top priority.
