49ers Pro Bowl C Alex Mack retires after 13 seasons

After much talk  surrounding his NFL future, San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl center Alex Mack has decided to retire after 13 seasons.

Mack joins a growing list of players — including quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick — who have officially hung up their cleats just on Thursday alone.

The 36-year-old Mack was very durable over his career, missing more than two games in a season just once. He started every one of San Francisco's 20 games in 2021, including three playoff contests.

Mack made his seventh Pro Bowl last season and earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2013, 2016 and 2017. The University of California product was taken 21st overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2009 and spent seven years with the team.

He signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in March 2016 and signed a three-year, $14.85 million deal with the Niners in March 2021.
