49ers Pro Bowl TE George Kittle vents about 'crappy turf' fields

In late September, Buffalo Bills star linebacker Von Miller made his opinion on NFL turf fields clear, saying "it's time for every single field in the NFL to be grass." After the San Francisco 49ers' injury-filled win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 5 on Sunday, standout tight end George Kittle vented about playing surfaces as well.

"The thing that just confuses me is if you’re not going to mandate grass, then why aren’t turf fields the exact same turf so guys get used to playing on the same turf everywhere? But every field has a different turf," the three-time Pro Bowler said, per NBC Sports' Tristi Rodriguez. "And so you’re playing on a different surface."

In Sunday's 37-15 road win over the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, the Niners lost cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to a potential torn ACL, safety Jimmie Ward broke his hand, defensive end Nick Bosa suffered a groin injury and kicker Robbie Gould went down with a knee injury.

"NBA guys don’t play on different wood, what are we doing? Hockey guys don’t play on different ices all the time. It’s ice. So I just wish we played on a surface that was similar every single week in, week out so your body won’t just be dealing with different, crappy turf," Kittle said.

According to Rodriguez's report, Week 5 was San Francisco's first game on FieldTurf, which Carolina transitioned to last season after originally having natural grass. The insider further notes that the 49ers will play two of their next three games on turf.

The team's Week 6 (Atlanta Falcons) and Week 8 (Los Angeles Rams) opponents use turf fields. San Francisco will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 at Levi's Stadium, which uses a grass field.
