49ers QB Trey Lance: 'I'm going to be ready to go Week 1'

The lingering question regarding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is where will he end up this offseason assuming the team is ready to hand the figurative keys to the offense over to 2021 rookie Trey Lance.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan stuck with Garoppolo throughout the postseason tournament even though the veteran was dealing with a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right (throwing) thumb that he suffered before Christmas, and this led some to assume Shanahan and company didn't believe Lance was prepared to compete under the bright lights of playoff football. Lance spoke with NFL Network and made it clear he's confident he can take the torch from Jimmy G.

"I'm going to be ready to go Week 1, without a doubt," Lance explained, according to David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "I'm super excited for the opportunity. I feel like I learned a lot. I'll continue to learn. But yeah, excited to get it going again."

Both Lance and Garoppolo spoke highly of each other throughout what could've been an awkward and difficult situation, and that trend continued ahead of Super Bowl LVI.

"I know, whatever the situation is, if Jimmy does leave, I know they're going to do everything in their power, his people, as well as our organization, to make sure he ends up in a good spot," Lance remarked about who will likely soon be his former mentor. "He deserves to be in a good spot."

For what it's worth, Lance seems confident Tom Brady won't be sitting above him on the depth chart this September.
