The San Francisco 49ers will be without their leading rusher and, most likely, a second backfield option for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has ruled Raheem Mostert out through the weekend as the 28-year-old continues to recover from an ankle injury that's sidelined him since a win over the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 18.
Despite playing in only four games this year, Mostert leads the 49ers with 303 rushing yards on 51 attempts.
Additionally, RotoWire reported that Tevin Coleman is also unlikely to play this weekend with a knee injury.
Shanahan exercising caution makes sense, as the 49ers enter their bye week on Sunday night and won't play again until a Nov. 29 showdown with the Rams. It's expected that Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty will again receive the bulk of opportunities among San Francisco backs in New Orleans.
During the loss to the Green Bay Packers last Thursday night, McKinnon recorded 52 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Hasty finished with three yards on four attempts.
