49ers respond to Joey Bosa rumors

Will the San Francisco 49ers pair Joey Bosa with his brother Nick on their pass rush next season? The question has been raised in recent days, but fans should not get their hopes up.

49ers president John Lynch was asked Sunday about the chances of the team pursuing Bosa in free agency. While he did not rule it out, Lynch suggested the cost would be prohibitive.

“I would love to make Mama Bosa happy, but I don’t think we can afford him,” Lynch said.

Some had wondered if Bosa would take something of a family discount in order to join the 49ers and play with his brother. That does not appear to be in the cards, at least right now, though the rumors are not going away.

The Bosa brothers never actually played together at Ohio State and have been on different teams throughout their respective NFL careers. They have mused in the past about teaming up, though it does not seem like something they are desperate to do.

Bosa had five sacks in 15 games for the Buffalo Bills last season. He remains unsigned, but has been linked to one AFC contender.
